Commercial Air Service Transition at Morgantown Municipal Airport

Commercial Air Service at Morgantown Municipal Airport now provides daily service to DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (IAD) in Washington, D.C. -- The new air service to and from Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD) was inaugurated on January 21, 2008. Colgan Air, Inc., which is MGW's air-service provider, initiated their first flight of the new service flying as United Express and provided promotional familiarization flights to and from IAD for local media, business, and educational representatives to introduce them to the new service and oriented them with a tour of the IAD airport.

The change to the new destination was thoroughly coordinated between Colgan Air, United Airlines, and DULLES INTERNATIONAL and resulted in a seamless and transparent transition for the passengers departing from and arriving at Morgantown Municipal Airport. The City of Morgantown and the Airport is enthusiastically endorsing the new service due to the increased options for business, government, educational, and leisure travelers to the Washington, D.C. area. DULLES INTERNATIONAL provides connections to more than 125 national destinations and over 30 international flights daily.

Additionally, the nation’s capitol offers multiple possibilities and options for educational and historical vacations and tours. The flight schedule is as follows: Monday through Friday – 3 departures and 4 arrivals daily and Saturday and Sunday – 2 departures and 3 arrivals daily. Ticket information can be obtained online or by calling the MGW UNITED EXPRESS passenger counter at (304) 296-2094.

Airport Projects

  • The completion date for MGW’s Runway Safety Area (RSA) project has been extended to the Spring of ’08. The final phase of the project includes the relocation of the Instrument Landing System’s (ILS) localizer antennae and the installation of new ILS equipment components which has been deferred to the April timeframe. The RSA provides a 1000 foot overrun safety area at the south end of Runway 18/36.

  • Renovations in the airport terminal were completed in February 2008. The renovations included the updating of the main lobby area, expanding the restaurant space, constructing a new passenger pre-screening section, and lobby furniture upgrades.

  • A major rehabilitation project of the south ramp area of Taxiway "Charlie" was completed in October of 2007. The rehab included a total re-surfacing of the ramp area and an extended "tie-down" area.

  • New light posts for the main ramp and new runway lighting and signage was installed during the Summer of 2007. These new systems have provided a major improvement in the illumination of the ramp and runway areas.

  • The West Virginia Army National Guard (WVARNG) continues plans for the construction of a state-of-the-art Readiness Center on the east side of airport which is tentatively scheduled to begin in the Summer-Fall of 2009. This project will encompass a facility complex built on a 35 acre parcel of land accessed by a planned industrial access road. The center will provide a stationing plan for the WVARNG’s 249th Army Band and Battery B of the 201st Field Artillery Battalion. The center will replace the current National Guard Armory located on Morgantown’s Mileground road.
